JOB SUMMARY: To teach some or all of the following undergraduate courses: General Sociology, Sociology of Deviance, Social Justice Studies, Criminology, Urban Sociology, Social Problems. |
Duties and Responsibilities | • Demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college. • Engage in high-quality instruction in a diverse, inclusive and student-centered environment, and the ability to work with students with various learning styles, cultures, identities, and life-experiences. • Participate in departmental and institutional activities, including committee work. • Use technology to enhance instruction and communicate effectively with the campus community. • Apply strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues. • Be willing to travel and teach at multi-campus locations as required by department needs. |
Minimum Qualifications | • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Sociology. No related degrees. Must have specialization in Sociology of Deviance and Social Justice Studies, including Criminology. • Minimum of six semesters, within the last five years, of stand- alone college teaching Sociology of Deviance, Social Justice Studies, including Criminology, preferably at the community college level • Documented record of excellence in teaching Sociology of Deviance, Social Justice Studies, and Criminology, full or part-time, at an accredited institution of higher learning, preferably a community college • Evidence of teaching effectiveness in the form of class syllabi and teaching/course evaluations must be provided at the time of application • Unofficial academic transcripts must be provided at the time of application • Finalists may be required to provide a teaching demonstration • Finalists are required to provide official college transcripts and recommendation letters |
Preferred Qualifications | • Ph.D. in Sociology. • Experience teaching online and hybrid courses in General Sociology, Sociology of Deviance, Social Justice Studies, Criminology, Urban Sociology, Social Problems. |
