Capitol Police Officer Job Description: To protect and provide police services and general security to the State Capitol, annexes, properties adjacent state buildings, grounds, premises and designated state properties against the ordinary hazards of trespass, theft, fire and damage; to maintain order on the premises; to provide for the safety, security, and protection of the public, employees and property; and to do related work as required.

Candidates must pass all phases of the recruitment process prior to appointment:

 

Ø  Physical agility test

Ø  Written examination

Ø  Oral board interview

Ø  Extensive law enforcement background investigation

Ø  Medical examination

Ø  Psychological examination

Ø  Capitol Police Training Academy

Additional requirements prior to appointment:

 

Ø  Must have reached the age of eighteen (18) years of age to be admitted to the Training Academy.  There is no maximum age of admission to the Training Academy.

Ø  Meet the State of Rhode Island qualification requirements to carry weapons used in the performance of duty.

Ø  Possess a valid Rhode Island Operator’s Driving License.

Ø  Have NO body piercings or tattoos that may be visible while in Department uniform.  The use of flesh colored sleeve will be acceptable to conceal any tattoos that are visible from the upper arm to the wrist bone.
