Central Falls kicks off 2018 Summer Food Service Program
Program Offers Youth Breakfast, Lunch, and Activities all Free of Charge
Central Falls – On Wednesday, June 27th, Mayor James A. Diossa and the City of Central Falls will kick-off the 5thAnnual Summer Food Service Program with the Annual Kick-Off Event. The event will be held at Jenks Park from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. The event and summer program is completely free and open to the public.
“Now in our fifth year, the Summer Food Service Program continues to provide our youth with the opportunity to enjoy fun activities and sports for free during the summer months that they are out of school. This year we have been able to partner with more organizations to grow the program,” said Mayor James A. Diossa.
The Central Falls Summer Food Service Program provides free breakfast and lunch to Central Falls youth from Monday through Friday throughout the summer from June 27thto August 24th. The mobile unit will also provide food from 4-6 pm throughout the City’s parks seven days a week. The program aims to promote the values and benefits of healthy living by offering nutritious meal options along with numerous physical activities for kids in the community.
“We’re excited for another year of the Summer Food Service Program in Central Falls! We’re back in Jenks Park with new activities and opportunities every day,” said Parks & Recreation & Community Services Director, Rob Sayre-McCord.
As part of the program, activities focused around sports will also be offered at Francis L Corrigan Sports Complex (Higginson Ave.).
“Our teen sports site returns to Higginson this year with flag football, MMA, basketball, and soccer programming provided by Astro, tennis from the United States Tennis Association, and baseball clinics with the Pawtucket Red Sox,” Director Sayre-McCord.
The Kick-Off will include a roaming railroad, face painters, balloon twisting, bouncy houses and games/activities. There will also be special guest appearances at noon.
Each year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture partners with local organizations to provide free meals to children when school is out for the summer.
