Countdown to Rhode Island Comic Con: Waiting is the hardest part
by BRYAN MONAGHAN, NBC 10 NEWS
Rhode Island Comic Con is now just days away.
Vendors and artists will begin setting up Thursday at the Rhode Island Convention Center and the Amica Mutual Pavilion.
If you’d like to see where vendors, artists, and celebrity guests will be set up in those buildings, the show maps are now available online.
The “Back to the Future” cast will be set up in their own space, on the fifth floor of the Convention Center.
The placement keeps them close to the professional photo-op area, which is taking over that main room on the fifth floor this year.
You can also see the show maps on the Altered Reality Entertainment app.
The app is useful for tracking schedules, keeping track of what’s where, and staying up to date on any changes made throughout the weekend.
Speaking of changes, the number of guest cancelations is rising.
“Ghostbusters” stars McKenna Grace and Logan Kim have had to cancel their appearances, along with Laurie Metcalf, wrestler Swerve Strickland, and others.
Be sure to check the bottom of the celebrity guests page to stay updated on cancelations – especially if there’s a chance one will change your weekend plans.
Organizers have made new guest announcements, to help fill the gaps: actor Gary Anthony Williams will be appearing, as well as Mark ‘Kidwok’ Britten.
Jenna Frank, daughter of late Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” actor Jason David Frank, will also be attending.
Jenna has done her own acting lately, and appeared in “Legend of the White Dragon” with her father, before his death in 2022.
Rhode Island Comic Con also announced fans can check out “The Blockbuster Experience“.
It’s a traveling homage to the last Blockbuster store – complete with the appropriate signage, furniture, movies, and games.
You’ll be able to browse and shop shelves of VHS tapes, DVDs, and video games.
It’s also a chance to take photos, and remember a time gone by.
Clicking around the website, you can also see which classic cars and displays will be on hand next week.
Expect to see a “Back to the Future” DeLorean, the Ecto-1, The Mystery Machine, and more, available for photos.
RICC organizers have also sent out a schedule for cosplay meetups throughout the three-day event.
The meetups are great opportunities to show off your work, see the work others have done, and take photos.
Now’s the time to firm up your plans for the weekend.
Rhode Island Comic Con is Nov. 1 – 3 at the Rhode Island Convention Center and the Amica Mutual Pavilion.
Tickets are available through Ticketmaster, the Amica Mutual Pavilion box office, and at all Toy Vault locations.
