Demócrata Peruana Jenni Furtado habla educación, crisis de vivienda y más

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — En las últimas elecciones primarias del pasado Setiembre, la candidata a representante del estado para el Distrito 64, Jenni Furtado, derrotó a Ashley Pereira con 70.7 por ciento de los votos.
Por el momento, Furtado del partido Demócrata es la única quien continúa en la candidatura para las elecciones generales. Esto viene después de que la representante demócrata Brianna Henries dijera que no buscaría ser reelegida.
La presidente del comité escolar, conversó con 12 Informa sobre sus propuestas si es que fuese elegida este Noviembre. El candidato elegido o elegida representa partes de la ciudad de East Providence y Pawtucket.
Entre las iniciativas, Furtado plantea mejorar la educación, la crisis de vivienda y las soluciones al impacto económico a los negocios locales por el Washington Bridge (Puente Washington).
Entre ello, Furtado busca proponer subir el sueldo de los profesores, reglamentar el costo de las rentas, como así mismo brindar apoyo financiero para compradores de vivienda por primera vez.
Además, Furtado habló de sus raíces Peruanas y su compromiso con la comunidad Hispana en el estado de Rhode Island.

Peruvian Democrat Jenni Furtado talks education, housing crisis and more
Jenni Furtado is a candidate for R.I. House District 64, which covers parts of East Providence and Pawtucket.
The Peruvian Democrat defeated Ashley Pereira in the September primary, leaving her as the lone candidate in the race, since no Republicans or independents filed to run.
The current representative, Brianna Henries, announced earlier this year that she won’t seek reelection.
Furtado is the current president of the East Providence School Committee. She joined 12 Informa to discuss her initiatives, which include improving education, the housing crisis, and addressing the economic impact on local businesses due to the Washington Bridge closure.
Furtado also seeks to propose raising teachers’ salaries, regulating the cost of rent, and providing financial support for first-time home buyers.
She also talked about her Peruvian roots and her commitment to the Hispanic community in the state of Rhode Island.
