Former North Providence Superintendent ordered to repay over

$9,000 in restitution after pleading to embezzlement charge

Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that Bridget Morisseau (age 49), formerly of Cumberland, pleaded nolo contendere in Providence County Superior Court today to one count of embezzlement. Superior Court Magistrate Richard D. Raspallo sentenced Morisseau to three years of probation and ordered $9,434 in restitution payments to be paid by November 15, 2019.

Had the case proceeded to trial, the State was prepared to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that between July 2017 and July 2018, Morisseau used public funds to pay for personal expenses on multiple occasions using her work issued bank card.

Morisseau’s personal expenditures, totaling $4,621, included payments for airfare, catering, resort accommodations, and a hotel stay. Additionally, during the course of an audit authorized by the North Providence School Committee and investigation by the North Providence Police Department, it was determined that there were $4,813 in payments made by the School Department to Morisseau which were outside the scope of her contract.

Detective Christopher Cote of the North Providence Police Department led the investigation into the case and Assistant Attorney General John Moreira and Special Assistant Attorney General Peter Roklan prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of the Attorney General.
