CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A 28-year-old Cranston man is facing several charges after a shooting at a bar on Phenix Avenue.
Michael Mancini has been charged with the following:
- Carrying a pistol without a license
- Possession of a controlled substance (schedule I-cocaine)
- Firing in a compact area
- Disorderly Conduct
- Resisting arrest
- Large capacity feeding device prohibited
- Carrying a weapon while under the influence of liquor or drugs
Officers on a security detail at 39 Phenix Avenue first heard a shot fired around 11:20 p.m., according to police.
Once police got to where this happened, they broke up a fight between two men stemming from an argument at that bar, with one of them being Mancini, who shot the gun.
Mancini wouldn’t let go of his gun when officers took him to the ground, police said.
It was noticed that he had a gunshot wound on his leg, which was later determined to be self-inflicted as it went off during Mancini’s scuffle with the other man.
Officers performed emergency aid until first responders got there and brought Mancini to Rhode Island Hospital.
The department said that Mancini also had cocaine on him when he was arrested.
