Newport Jazz Festival to kick off this weekend
NEWPORT, R.I. (WJAR) — Preparations are underway for the beginning of the Newport Jazz Festival.
Newport Police released a new traffic flow schedule for the weekend.
Traffic leaving Fort Adams will be directed towards Ocean Avenue and Ruggles Avenue to help disperse vehicles, according to Newport Police.
Drivers looking to then head downtown can use Coggeshall Avenue and Carroll Avenue to connect with Spring Street leading to Memorial Boulevard.
Other people attending the festival who are not driving can bike to and from Fort Adams with designated bike lanes set up.
Water Shuttles are also available departing from Perrotti Park in Newport.
“The fastest way to get too and from is from bike or by boat,” said Mayor Xay Khamsyvoravong. “It’s one of our best traditions here over 10,000 people come in to hear the Jazz Festival.”
Parking opens at 8:00 a.m., and the music begins at 11:00 a.m.
