Police arrest driver in deadly Warwick hit-and-run

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Warwick police have arrested the driver accused of hitting two people in the area of Route 2 on Sunday, killing one and severely injuring the other.
Dannys L. De Jesus Marcano, 24, was arrested at his North Kingstown home after detectives located the vehicle that was involved in the crash.
He has been charged with duty to stop in an accident resulting in death, and duty to stop in an accident resulting in serious bodily injury. He is expected to be arraigned Friday morning.
Police say 44-year-old Nicholas Cote, of Warwick, was walking on Quaker Lane around 9:40 p.m. Sunday when 26-year-old Logan Barboza, of West Warwick, hit him with her vehicle.
After she got out to check on him, police said a dark-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee hit Barboza, then ran over Cote.
Cote was pronounced dead at the scene and Barboza was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Jeep, De Jesus Marcano, then drove off, police said.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to Nicholas Cote’s family, as well as our wishes for a strong recovery to Logan Barboza,” Warwick police wrote in a press release. “And a special ‘thank you’ to everyone that contributed to the speedy closure of this investigation.”
