Following the December premiere of the sweeping story’s first part, Netflix is now set to complete its visual retelling of the Nobel laureate’s masterpiece, a tale of forbidden love, madness, superstitions, fears, and war. The first installment not only dominated Netflix’s charts in Colombia but also earned a spot in the platform’s Global Top 10, receiving widespread acclaim from critics and audiences.
The second installment will once again be directed by Laura Mora (The Kings of the World, Killing Jesus), whose visionary work, alongside Alex García López (The Acolyte, The Witcher), was instrumental in bringing the magical world of Macondo to life in the first part. This time around, she has a new co-director for the conclusion of the multi-generational saga of the Buendía family: Carlos Moreno (Lavaperros, Distrito Salvaje).

Due to the complexity of the story and the demands of production logistics, the series was divided into two parts, each consisting of eight episodes, to ensure the adaptation did justice to the novel. The first installment required nine months of filming and an additional year of post-production before its release.
García Márquez’s novel was first published in 1967. One of the most celebrated works of magical realism, and recognized worldwide, it has sold over 50 million copies in more than 46 languages.
