PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — The city of Providence celebrated Dominican culture and heritage with a parade and music festival on Sunday.
The cultural parade set off at the intersection of Thurbers Avenue and Broad Street in the morning and included five grand marshals.
The festivities continued with a music festival at the Temple to Music at Roger Williams Park that included live performances from local artists, authentic Dominican cuisine, and various vendors.
Marilyn Cepeda, president of Quisqueya In Action, Inc., and other local dignitaries and officials were on hand to celebrate.
“Oh my God, we are so excited! This is our 38th year,” Cepeda said.
“We organized this event to educate our kids, our community, about the importance of art and culture and preservation,” said Cepeda.
The music festival continues until 8 p.m.
