Woman killed in driveway accident in Cranston identified as 77-year-old
CRANSTON, R.I. (WJAR) — Cranston police have identified a woman that was struck and killed by a vehicle on Friday night.
Emergency crews responded to 41 Strathmore Rd. at around 7:40 p.m. and found an unresponsive woman lying at the end of the driveway.
Rescue personnel administered CPR and other “life-saving measures”.
The victim, identified as 77-year-old Lundy Braun of Cranston, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Cranston Police Chief Michael Winquist said the driver, a 25-year-old Pawtucket woman, and a passenger remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The driver told police she was backing out of the driveway and did not realize anyone was behind her until she felt the impact of the collision.
When the driver realized she struck the woman, she rushed to get help.
According to Chief Winquist, the driver showed no signs of alcohol or drug impairment.
The 2009 Toyota Highlander involved in the collision was towed to the Cranston police department as part of the investigation.
Police said Braun frequently walked in the area which is near her house.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Braun’s family as they deal with this tragic event, as well with the driver and passenger, who were obviously extremely distraught,” said Winquist.
No charges have been filed.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
