The Providence City Council approved the final passage of the Cannabis Zoning ordinance, that would allow retail sales of cannabis.

The ordinance would also update the municipal zoning, allowing more licensed cannabis establishments.

Based on community requests, the ordinance also includes safety measures for cannabis retailers.

Strict guidelines would be in place requiring business to be at least 500 feet from schools.

Prospective retailers must also alert neighbors within 200 feet of the business.
