Rhode Island FC wins conference title

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. — Rhode Island FC has won the USL Eastern Conference championship.

The team, in its inaugural season, clinched its first trophy in club history by defeating Charleston Battery 2-1 on Saturday.

According to RIFC it’s the first expansion team in eight years to advance to the USL Championship Final in its inaugural season.

This means the team planning to call the under-construction Tidewater Landing stadium in Pawtucket its home next year will travel to Colorado Springs to play the Switchbacks FC in the USL championship final next Saturday.
