There is $ 5 million in the State Budget for the new building.
The Pawtucket-Central Falls Transit Center gives people a quick way to get to Boston or jump on a bus.
The transit center opened about a year and a half ago it serves as an MBTA stop and a RIPTA bus hub.
Plans for the RIPTA passenger facility have been in the works for months.
Early plans included an indoor waiting room space with restrooms for passengers and drivers, along with a Pawtucket police substation.
Mayor Donald Grebien said the station is great for the city.
“Businesses are already recognizing and investing in the transit hub area and will provide easy and desirable access to affordable development and rental costs,” Grebien said. “It’s about connecting our residents to Providence and Boston, and introducing those residents to us.”
The project could be completed as soon as the end of next year.
