“I think it’s really a shame that it’s come to people using assault weapons to shut up politicians,” one Rhode Island voter told, NBC10 Sunday night.

“This is something that should be taken care of at the ballot box,” began Rhode Island Republican chair, Joe Powers. “It really shouldn’t be something that should be played out in a theatre such as this.”

Sen. Jack Reed writing in a statement, “Political violence has no place in America, and an AK-47 has no place near a golf course or near a presidential candidate.”

Rhode Island Rep. Seth Magaziner echoing the sentiment, writing quote:

“I am thankful that former President Trump is safe…. We must redouble our efforts to keep weapons out of the hands of those who should not have them.”

Several others including Sen. Sheldon White house, Congressman Gabe Amo, and Gov. Dan McKee, also provided statements Sunday condemning the violence-and praising swift action from law enforcement to prevent further escalation of the incident.

“To me it [says] the democrats don’t have all the faith in the world that they pretend to have in Kamala Harris, “Chairman Powers continued. “That [the democratic] party is not a party of joy or hope.”

Some local voters told NBC10, they’re worried about what’s to come as tensions heighten toward election day.

“I think it’s just going to keep happening,” one Johnston resident said. “And we’re going to see more and more outrageous things unfold as we get toward the election.”

Meanwhile, federal investigation into the incident continues.

Important to note, former president Donald Trump continues to have limited security detail, as he is not a sitting president, a protocol some tell NBC 10, should be revisited.
