RHODE ISLAND VIOLENT FUGITIVE TASK FORCE ANNOUNCES ARREST OF DAVID MARROQUIN

David Marroquin was arrested on May 11, 2020 by the U.S. Marshals Puerto Rico Violent Offender Task Force. Members of the Providence Police Detectives Bureau had obtained arrest warrants for Marroquin charging him with Committing a Crime of Violence while in Possession of a Weapon, Breaking and Entering in an Occupied Dwelling, Conspiracy and Escape.  Additionally, Marroquin had two outstanding bench warrants issued on January 27, 2020, out of Rhode Island Superior Court for failing to appear on a bail violation hearing, stemming from a November 2019 arrest for possession of a stolen firearm.  The U.S. Marshals Service is also looking into pursuing federal charges for Unlawful Flight to avoid Prosecution.

Marroquin managed to free himself from restraints and escape from police custody on January 18, 2020 after being arrested for Breaking and Entering.  Providence Police later requested the assistance of the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force with tracking him down. After exhausting all leads in Rhode Island, investigators worked closely with Providence Police Detectives to develop information that Marroquin fled the state and was possibly residing at an address in Puerto Rico.  The Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force contacted their counterparts in Puerto Rico for assistance in locating and apprehending Marroquin.  As U.S. Marshals in Puerto Rico approached Marroquin, he fled on foot but was apprehended after a short chase.  Marroquin is being held pending extradition to Rhode Island to face the outstanding charges.  The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Rhode Island provided valuable assistance throughout the investigation.

The Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force is run by the U.S Marshals Service along with the Rhode Island State Police. The Task Force is comprised of members from the U.S. Marshals Service, the Rhode Island State Police, and the Warwick, Cranston, Coventry, East Providence, Middletown, Pawtucket, Portsmouth and Providence Police Departments who work full time to track down and apprehend the most violent and dangerous fugitives both within the United States and Internationally.
