(WJAR) — A tour of South Attleboro Station is set for Friday.
It reopened in the spring after being closed for 3 years.
It will be free to park at the South Attleboro Station until April.
State leaders said they’re hoping it will get more people to hop on the train and head into Boston.
The MBTA reopened the South Attleboro Station in May.
It was closed for three years because of structural deficiencies. Improvements have been made and now everyone gets on and off on one platform.
Passengers can take the train to Boston during the morning and afternoon rush hours, with three inbound and three outbound trips every weekday.
State Rep Jim Hawkins said it’s been a long process to upgrade the station, and riders are happy with the option.
“It is for the region. It integrates Massachusetts public transit, Rhode Island Public Transit, the commuter rail, all at the same spot,” said Rep. Hawkins.
There are also plans in the works to build more housing in the area near the station.
