Statement WRT FY20 Budget

PROVIDENCE, RI –  Mayor Jorge O. Elorza signed the FY 2020 City Budget tonight and provided the following statement:

I am pleased that by working with my colleagues in the City Council, we have passed a budget which balances our residents interests fairly and continues to makes critical investments in our communities to move Providence forward.

This budget builds on the responsible budgeting practices that have put our city on sound financial footing in recent years and continues investments to create opportunities for our youth, supports major arts and culture programming residents and visitors enjoy, and reflects our strong commitment to improving schools during this critical time.

These investments will strengthen our neighborhoods, maintain critical community resources and will protect our most vulnerable. I thank my colleagues in city government for coming to the table and supporting a budget that preserves the progress we have made while setting us up for continued success.

Me complace que al trabajar con mis colegas en el Concejo Municipal, hemos aprobado un presupuesto que equilibra los intereses de nuestros residentes de manera justa y continúa realizando inversiones críticas en nuestras comunidades para avanzar a Providence.

Este presupuesto se basa en las prácticas presupuestarias responsables que han puesto a nuestra ciudad en una base financiera sólida en los últimos años y continúa las inversiones para crear oportunidades para nuestros jóvenes, respalda programas de arte y cultura mayores que disfrutan los residentes y visitantes, y refleja nuestro fuerte compromiso a mejorar las escuelas durante este momento crítico.

Estas inversiones fortalecerán nuestros vecindarios, mantendrán recursos comunitarios críticos y protegerán a los más vulnerables.

Agradezco a mis colegas en el gobierno municipal por venir a la mesa y apoyar un presupuesto que preserva el progreso que hemos logrado y al igual nos prepara para el éxito continuo.
