VIRTUAL PROGRAMS/Exhibition: PPL Launches SLEEP MODE: a virtual exhibition, related events, and an invitation to dream

Join us to dream about the future!

PROVIDENCE, RI – It’s been a very long year, but a new season is almost here – what are you dreaming about?  Following a long period of dormancy during construction, and another year of limited physical connection, we enter this season of tentative but hopeful transition.  Providence Public Library (PPL) invites you to experience SLEEP MODE: a virtual exhibition, related events, and an invitation to dream. From April through June, we’ll be considering our relationship to sleep and dreams, states of being which encompass essential rest, but also intense – if often invisible – activity.

Visit https://www.provlib.org/programs-exhibitions/sleep-mode/ to join us in exploring the history of sleeping and dreaming, hypnotism and trance, hibernation and introspection, dormancy and expectation, and the crucial role of dreaming in times of struggle and social upheaval or to read about the virtual exhibition curated by PPL’s Research and Outreach Librarian for Special Collections Angela DiVeglia. Sign up for accompanying activities, which will be delivered virtually, but will include ways to participate offline, even out of doors, on your own time.

Register for one or more of our bi-weekly live, virtual Curator’s Conversations, showcasing exhibition items from PPL’s Special Collections. For each Conversation, curator Angela DiVeglia, PPL’s Research and Outreach Librarian for Special Collections, will be joined by a community member whose area of interest matches that event’s sleep-related theme (see the full lineup of Curator’s Conversations and scroll down to register). Viewers can ask questions during the event or submit them afterwards through the SLEEP MODE web page!

Stay tuned for announcements of additional programming presented in collaboration with local artists and community members, exploring the far reaches of our collective dreamscapes!  Sign up for regular SLEEP MODE emails.
