RI officials unveil new COVID vaccine eligibility timeline

Laurie White: No Tinkering with the Tax Code
Legislation has been introduced to increase state personal income taxes for high earners. House Bill 5227 would add a new income tax bracket for those earning more than $475,000 with a new rate of 8.99 percent, an increase of 50 percent. House Bill 5229 similarly would create a new tax bracket for those earning more than $500,000 with new rate of 6.99 percent, and with revenues resulting from the increase to be deposited in a restricted receipt account for K-12 educational expenses.

WPRI: RI Opening 2 New Mass Vaccination Sites;
Officials Unveil New Eligibility Timeline

Rhode Island leaders provided an update Thursday on when people who live, work and study in the state are expected to be able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Gov. Dan McKee said the state is on track to open eligibility to everyone ages 16 and older by April 19. They will continue to add new age groups in descending order, just on a more compressed timeline than previously planned.

BCBSRI Announces New President and CEO
After a national search, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island has announced the appointment of Martha L. Wofford, group vice president at DaVita, Inc. in Denver, Colorado, as the president and CEO of the local, nonprofit health insurer. Wofford will be the eighth president and CEO of the 82-year-old company and the second woman to fill the role. She will join the company in April, succeeding Kim Keck, now president and CEO of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association.
